Maven: From the Tipping Point

Another airport story: A lady sitting next to me was reading a book called “Blink” in the lounge in the Montreal airport yesterday. It’s by the same author, Malcolm Gladwell, who wrote “the Tipping Point”. We got talking and of course had many people in common, our life situations in common, same age, etc. When she asked about my company and consulting services I explained that I got the name, Your Marketing Mavens, and Maven in particular from the Tipping Point. Maven – means one who accumulates knowledge and who has information on a lot of different products or prices or places. To be completely truthful it was my virtual assistant, Jaime, who gave suggested the name and to take it one step further - it’s JAIME who is a maven.

A logical question is Could anyone be a maven if they just have the diligence and desire to learn a specific craft or area of knowledge?

I say yes, and that my clients are all mavens in their respective fields of expertise. They are passionate about what they do, they are experienced and well-known for what they’ve created and built.

Virtual assistants are mavens. I just contacted Victoria, a virtual assistant I know in Florida, who is a maven for PBX phone services. I want a phone number with the code 613 so that I can do business in Ottawa and she’s the woman to talk to. She’s getting me a quote as I type.

I bought a book called the 4 Hour Work Week by Tim Ferriss this past weekend in Ottawa. He out-sources his life basically and is known to have brought the virtual assistant phenomena to light. Maybe I could get one of my VA friends to confirm this.

    Hey Moe

I’ve heard of the book - lots of people claim to have brought the VA ‘phenomena’ to light. He could be one of those people. I’d love to borrow the book when you’re through!
