Remarkable Woman

I met with a woman named Susan MacDonald on Saturday. Susan healed from stage 4 lymphatic cancer and wrote a book about it. She spent the entire time while she was sick, researching and recording the whole process and her medical history which lead to the ultimate shutting down of her body in the form of the diagnosis of terminal cancer. Her book: B.A.L.A.N.C.E. is an amazing wealth of information on how to heal your body naturally. Click here to order from Chapters.ca Read more »

Great PEI Restaurant PR

Apparently I missed this article in the Financial Post section of the National Post from December.

I think Gordon Baily and the gang at Urban Eatery did a remarkable job of turning the food court of the Confederation Mall into one great, big restaurant which sells delicious food.

Friendly Friday - More Networking:Food:Friends

This Friday was a far cry from last Friday where I started the day learning that my good friend was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was a wobbly, roller-coaster of a week. Seven days full of emotion, research, pacing and praying.

This past Friday I started off the day as a usual Friday and went to my son’s school and basically all I did was supervise a group of kids while they read for less than hour. It’s very rewarding and it’s right before recess so I get to hang out with the kids in the hall for a bit which is tres cool.

John Morris of dotServing.com picked me up and we had a nice ride out to Montague in his fancy new BMW SUV. Arrived in time for a luncheon to see the the Honorable Richard Brown, Minister of Development and Technology and Dan Daley, CMC and managing partner of BDC Consulting (Atlantic Region) to speak about how the US/Canada exchange rate is affecting SMB’s on PEI. To my friends and associates:

I am inspired by a book I just read called: Eat. Pray. Love. by Elizabeth Gilbert. The first part is when the author spends four months in Italy and puts on 30+ pounds. She affirms my belief that connecting with people over great food is good for the soul.

I’m putting forth an invitation for a night at my house in downtown Pownal with my good friend Chef Stephen Hunter doing a cooking demonstration and then serving us a 3 course meal. I have the space for 10 - 12 people to comfortably enjoy a nice meal. Even better if it were summer, alas, as it is freezing cold outside it is sure to be cozy and fun inside.

Stephen is a classically trained chef and has been giving cooking classes for years. Actually it was at a cooking class that I first met him 8 years ago at Piece A Cake.

If you’re interested:

- the date proposed is Saturday, January 26th at 7pm
- cost: $25
- byob
- 3 course Thai meal

I’m hoping 10 - 12 of you will be interested and available. Feel free to invite a friend or let me know if you’re interested in another date. Car-pooling may be available. Stephen’s websites are: www.victoriavillageinn.com and www.squidoo.com/PEICulinaryTours if you want to check them out.

Peace,

Viral Marketing in action…

Louise, I love you - you’re too freaking good to me.

(Louise is my mentor and great friend.  She’s owned a driving school for almost 28 years along with a few other entrepreneurial endeavors.  A heart of gold.)

A big part of my life.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that breast cancer has been a big part of my life for the past decade as I have watched three women very close to me die of it. Recently my good friend was diagnosed and the sadness and memories are storming back. Read more »

My 8 year old gets it

It being a storm day today, my sons and I were running out of things to do by the end of the night. We had even pulled out the new cookbook from Christmas titled “Deceptively Delicious” and had pita pizzas. Right in front of the boys I managed to steam cauliflower and red pepper but only managed to discreetly add the red pepper pulp after I chopped ‘er up. They were delicious with left-over salsa chicken, basil pesto, one with tomato sauce and grated cheese.

So we decided to build my son Caden a website. Read more »

Marketing truth of Atlantic Canada

People do business with those that they inherently like.

The best business to get is through referrals.

The best services and products get a lot of referral business.

It’s therefore great for everyone to refer great products or services.

Those which are remarkable.

Stories that are remarkable spread. Some spread like wildfire.

I know this is all very Seth Godin-like of me to say however, it occurs to me nearly every single day as I collect people’s views, opinions, stories, etc.

As well, trying to start a business in Atlantic Canada for business owners, it occurs to me “what’s the point in advertising my services?”. If I do a great job for people, save them piles of money and energy and help them fulfill their passions and dreams, I think it’ll spread and I’ll continue getting clients who are awesome to work with.

She’s a bit lean starting out tho, WHA?? As some of my fellow Islanders with great accents can attest to.
