Phenomenal research tool, thanks Google!

This is something so cool that I want to share it with every person I know who researches anything.

Firstly - I can’t explain Google Alerts better than Jaime Mann who “alerts” me of new, cool tools all the time. But this one really kicks ass. Read Jaime’s explanation of Google Alerts here.

Google Alerts logoBasically, you type in to the home page of Google Alerts any keywords or phrase that you would like Google to alert you to if it’s mentioned in ANYTHING online.

I signed up yesterday and my immediate first thought of who to get Google to alert me about is myself (basic principle in which I touched on in my post about “who cares?”).

Next, I typed in Prince Edward Island. And so on.

I’ve received emails from Google telling me about all of the blog posts, websites, news stories, etc. that are online with those phrases in them. Just one email, once a day, for each.

A new client stopped by my office (my kitchen) today and asked me to research something VERY interesting and quite niche. So guess what I’m going to do? Type that product into Google Alerts - the keyword/phrase - and wait for Google to send me whatever it finds on it. It researches for me while I hang out on March Break with my kids.

I am such a Google fan. Jaime, thanks again fellow Maven.

I love a girl that says ‘frig’ in her blog posts.

I’m glad I blogged about Google that day. Those alerts rule.
