Pitter patter Twitter matters

Please forgive the title. Twitter has forced me to try and be witty in 140 characters or less - it occurred to me while driving today.

As per usual it was my witty and clever VA who told me to join Twitter. I did and less than a week later I am beginning to realize the potential of this social networking tool. I’ve actually graduated to using twhril to post my Twitter updates and am now hopefully looked upon as not so much of a newbie/rookie anymore.

If you are familiar with Facebook and the updates used on it then you can grasp the premise behind Twitter. It is made up of updates, small little posts, by people who you “follow”.

The potential of it comes from people sharing what they’re working on, interesting sites, informative blog posts, new tools, etc. For me, I am following many other freelancers and internet marketers. I’ve been non-stop exploring all of the things they are turning me onto for the past few days ever since I joined a “pack”. We all joined up and started following one another, signed up for a bunch of new feeds from their blogs and are now networking on Twitter. It’s brilliant.

For my friends in journalism I found this list of journalists and media people who are on Twitter from the My Creative Team website (which has loads of great content).

And if you need a bit more of a coherent explanation then check out this article in Businessweek.

If you sign up, let me know and I’ll follow you, fo’ sure!

Maureen, thanks for the shout out to my posting on journalists who are Twittering. I’ve moved the list to a wiki I set up so that others can help edit it. Here is the new url: http://twitteringjournalists.pbwiki.com/
