The mavens

“What sets Mavens apart, though, is not so much what they know but how they pass it along. The fact that Mavens want to help, for no other reason than because they like to help, turns out to be an awfully effective way of getting someone’s attention.” Malcolm Gladwell (Tipping Point).

Kerr Consulting was founded by Maureen Kerr (Marketing Maven) in the summer of 2006. A keen gatherer of information and true entrepreneur, Maureen launched her new business to educate Atlantic Canadians about modern, low-cost Internet marketing mediums. Maureen discovered through her research that many business owners in the Maritimes go no further with their online marketing strategy than registering a domain name and slapping up a website. She learned first hand the power of Internet marketing when her former business, Island Tee Times (a golf travel agency), reached sales of almost one million dollars with the help of Google Adwords.

Maureen has recognized that business owners often have too much on their plates to keep up with the goings on online and don’t even realize how an Internet marketing strategy can breathe new life into their company. Through her new venture, Maureen dazzles her clients by showing them some of the most popular tools on the Internet, and how they can use these tools to increase their visibility by creating a buzz around their business. Maureen also teaches her clients how to use these methods (such as how to blog or set up Google Adwords accounts) by removing the intimidation factor that’s often a barrier for many who have yet to delve into marketing online. She adores showing her clients what they can be doing with the Web and thrives on the enthusiasm generated by showing people how easy it is to spread their ideas on the Internet.

Her former business, Island Tee Times, was such a success that Maureen was honored with the title of ‘Young Entrepreneur of the Year for PEI’ by the BDC (Business Development Bank of Canada) and was named the ‘Third Fastest Growing Company in Atlantic Canada’ by Atlantic Progress magazine. moe1Maureen has entered the world of blogging and in true maven style, has gathered what she has learned and is sharing how to get started with Wordpress with friends, family and clients.

After setting her father up with a blog in November 2007 to vent his disdain regarding the lack of doctors on Prince Edward Island, Maureen gave him the domain name www.HealthPEI.com. Within one day the local news called and Sandy Kerr and HealthPEI.com were featured on the CBC’s morning radio show, the evening news and CBC’s national website in an article here. Check out her blog for details on how his traffic exploded and reached a tipping point.

Squidoo is a great source of learning and experience for Maureen. She recently built lenses on her aunt, Mae Moore, her client Stephen Hunter for his PEI Culinary Tours as well as a lens based on her dad’s experience of importing a car from the US.The Chef and Hostess

Other marketing endeavors for her clients include: dinner parties, brochures, copy and sales writing, blogs, websites, powerpoint presentations, speech editing, professional photography services, and sampling DELICIOUS food.

Your Marketing Mavens include a number of talented people who Maureen works with including her super powered virtual assistant, Jaime Mann of Mann Made Time and development “dude”, Mark Hodder.

Maureen is the proud mother of two beautiful boys, Jake and Caden. She truly is a maven and in her down time you’ll find her glued to her laptop gathering information that will further assist her clients and herself in their business ventures. When she’s not spending time with her sons or her computer, she enjoys reading, exercising (yoga and walking her Husky) and learning as much as possible about preventative and holistic healthcare. Maureen also enjoys volunteering for several causes, and regularly reads to her son’s class at Glen Stewart Elementary School in Stratford PEI. Oh, and shoes. She loves shoes.

Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth that ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way.
Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it. Begin it now.
